Please use this calendar to review Branch events, both those held in the past and for future events planned:

On November 2nd our branch enjoyed the first of what we plan will become a regular feature of our annual calendar - an informal luncheon at the Millrace Gastro Pub near Ross on Wye.in Herefordshire  . The format was simple - all our members were invited to come along at midday  , to bring guests and to select their lunch from the the full or daily menu .  You could choose as many courses and wines as you wished and everyone was responsible for their own account.  The Millrace has gained a reputation as a superb gastropub that offers imaginative interpretations of traditional  'pub' meals but which specialises in game dishes - particularly at this time of the year.: Game Pie and Wild Mallard featured this week.   The wine list is extensive and each week they recommend  half a dozen  'house' wines which have been selected to accompany the daily 'specials' on the menu.   Over half our members joined us and we had several guests.  The owner - Lyn Bourgaize - made us very welcome and I am sure we will return to the Millrace in the future.  This concept of an informal ' pay as you go'  event is new to our branch and was welcomed by all .  We will try it again , possibly as a pre theatre supper next time .  As it was the first time we have tried  this format the branch offered a drink on arrival for everyone and that was certainly popular !

Theme An Informal Lunch
Venue Orles Barn Restaurant
Location Ross on Wye
Date Apr 19, 2011
Time 12.00

Orles Barn is a long established restaurant and hotel which has changed ownership recently.  Situated adjacent to the Wilton roundabout just outside Ross on Wye (Satnav  HR9 6AE ). The menu has been newly created and has attracted many excellent commendations .  The informal lunch for members & guests is an innovation for the Herefordshire & Monmouthshire Branch and allows members to select from the menu and wine list  according to their taste.   It also means that a wider selection of the 'goodies' on offer can be sampled and assessed by members .  We meet for a drink at  midday and aim to be seated for lunch by 12.45.   As it is an informal occasion each person is responsible for their own account. on the day.    For more information please contact peter.mcgahey@btinternet.com and look at the Orles Barn website -  www.orles-barn.co.uk.   Members of all branches are welcome to join us - and to bring guests.   It helps if you let us know you will come along and leave a contact number in case anything changes.
