WA Branch News Feb 2024

Greetings All,

It has been a busy start to the year hosting our first Chinese New Year dinner for some years.

The dinner was held at Andly Private Kitchen and was an over-sold event.  The food was exquisite - individual creations which culminated in a very tasteful and artistic dessert and complemented by wines, two of which were from China.  Our thanks to Chef/Owner Andly and Maitre d': Olivia.

Vignarosa Prosecco was served on arrival followed by the best Lion Dance I and many others have ever witnessed.  The twin Lions paraded through the restaurant and kitchen receiving red envelopes before performing the Dragon Dance outside to the beat of drums and the clash of cymbals.  The central dragon and mandarins were served to President Steve and APZ Chair Michael to be shared by the diners.

DESSERT: Assorted delights including Mango sorbet& Wild Fig.  Matched with: 2006 Itsasmendi Urezh (Hondarrabi Zuri, from Bizkaiko Txakolina, País Vasco, Spain)

During the evening, we ran a raffle for a special bottle of 2022 Chardonnay from the Li Family winery in China.  Congratulations to Raphael Kurganoff.  Enjoy!

Hopefully the dance and offerings will give us extra good luck over the year.

Next Event

Will be going Moroccan!!  We have tentatively set Monday 18th March at 6:30pm at Jawhara Restaurant on Canning Hwy, Palmyra.  This will be banquet-style and a traditional Belly Dance performance.  As usual, we will be pairing wine from a spread of little known wine destinations - Morocco, Georgia, Greece and others.

Hope you can make it. Numbers will be restricted to 35 so please pencil it in and be quick when it is advertised.

Membership Renewal

This of course has been completed so welcome back to all members for another year of good food, good wine and good company.

It never ceases to amaze me that our annual membership fee is still $100.  Not even roadside assist membership is that cheap and I haven’ had to use that for years…touch wood.

The Early Payment Prize was drawn on Monday evening at the CNY dinner.  Congratulations to: Folker Krueger.

President Steve recognised our esteemed member Rosita Krueger having been a member for 10years.  Congratulations Rosita!

During the evening of our CNY, we were pleased to induct two new members in Tania Zimmermann and Mark Hammond.  Congratulation to this couple who both enjoy good food, good wine and good company.  Welcome to our Society Mark & Tania.
