Dear Members,

Late May in Melbourne brings days that are getting shorter, weather that’s getting cooler, and leaves that put on that final spectacle of autumn colour before winter arrives.

We think our second quarter function is the perfect time of year to embrace something a little more complex and perhaps even more restrained than your average ‘new’ restaurant. For this reason, we are thrilled to be returning to our city’s inimitable fine dining destination, Woodland House.

In a city where fine dining is an increasing rarity, Chefs Thomas Woods and Hayden McFarland deserve serious kudos for charting a far from easy course in this age of queues, three sittings a night and fairly instantaneous culinary gratification. In the three years since we were last at Woodland House, discreet experimentation and emerging confidence have been rewarded with two coveted Hats.

For our function, we anticipate a menu that is considered and confident. Flavours of Europe prevail, however touches of Asia bring will bring complexity and nuance. Expect the likes of smoked eel custard, or suckling pig accompanied by XO sauce, dried miso and boudin noir. Even a simple pancooked whiting – sweet and delicate.

Such exceptional wine friendly food demands that we dig deep into our cellar for some truly remarkable wines. We look forward to seeing you for what should be a quintessentially ‘IWFS’ experience in which we celebrate the pleasures of fine food, fine wine and fine dining at its best.
