Theme André Simon ‘Seven’ Dinner at Vue
Venue Vue de Monde
Location Level 55, Rialto, 525 Collins Street, Melbourne
Date Aug 03, 2016
Time 7:00PM for 7:30PM start

Dear Members,

For this year’s headline dinner, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the IWFS Victoria Branch, founded August 5, 1936.  Worldwide, IWFS was founded October 20 1933 in London. We are the sixth oldest branch in the world, and the first branch founded in the southern hemisphere.  This promises to be a dazzling evening in which we commemorate our founder, André Simon, as well as the unforgettable food and wine experiences which have brought us together over the years.

For such a special occasion, it’s hard to imagine a more fitting venue than Vue. Since it’s beginnings in a terrace on Drummond Street, members have chronicled the restaurant’s journey from classical French style restaurant to modern haute cuisine. Vue de Monde was lauded in its original location, including chef/owner Shannon Bennett being awarded the Australian Gourmet Traveller's inaugural 'Best New Talent' Award in 2003.

It was the move to the new premises (the Normanby Chambers) when Vue de Monde achieved widespread critical acclaim, including a then unprecedented 19/20 from The Age Good Food Guide. In the years since the menu has continued to evolve from its classical roots and today is characterised by a lighter hand and a contemporary approach. For our dinner, the team at Vue Events bring us a menu which is sophisticated and satisfying, showcasing local ingredients handled with craftsmanship and respect. Each dish has been hand selected by our committee, ensuring progression of flavours and the upmost wine matches.

And speaking of wine, it’s the André Simon dinner, so it’s your chance to roll out the black tie and indulge in some truly special wines - selected only from IWFS “Seven” rated vintages. Being our branch’s 80th anniversary we will be digging deep into our cellar, so expect to be wowed!  We hope that you can join us to commemorate this milestone.
