A Global IWFS Celebration

In May 1976, the Judgement of Paris reshaped the wine world, challenging long‑held assumptions about quality, provenance, and the balance between Old World tradition and New World ambition. Fifty years on, IWFS branches across multiple countries will gather during the same week to honour that moment and explore its legacy.

Our NSW event forms part of this coordinated global programme, with each participating branch conducting the same blind tasting and contributing their results to a collective global tally to be revealed on 24 May 2026.

The Tasting

The evening will begin with a blind tasting of 12 wines — six Chardonnays and six Cabernet/Bordeaux blends — selected not to replicate the original 1976 lineup, but to showcase the global diversity and stylistic breadth that the Judgement helped bring to prominence. Several of the wines in our NSW flight are not available in Australia and are being imported specially for this event, underscoring the rarity of this tasting.

The lineup also includes Veedercrest, one of the original producers featured in the 1976 Judgement of Paris. The winery is today led by Ron Fenolio, an IWFS member and the only original owner still in charge, and the wine has been specially shipped from California for Judgement+50.

All wines will be tasted blind and scored, with our NSW results contributing to the global Judgement+50 tally to be revealed on 24 May.

Dinner in the Fort Denison Cellar

Following the tasting, members will move downstairs to the Fort Denison Cellar for a three‑course dinner prepared by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron culinary team.
