Champagne Lunch

Dear Members,

We have an exciting tasting and luncheon planned. It is definitely not cheap but it will be fabulous. Several of us have spoken previously about the difference between a Champagne that develops in magnum versus bottle. The difference was especially evident at our recent 80th Anniversary Dinner at Vue de Monde when we poured the 02 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne from magnum, and then from bottle.

The Wines:
So we are going to put it to the test once again, this time with a blind tasting of four Champagnes, each served from both magnum and bottle. Champagnes will include four exceptional options:
• 1996 Krug
• 1999 Diebolt-Vallois Fleur de Passion
• 2002 Selosse Vintage Champagne
• 2008 Roses de Jeanne Les Ursules

Each bracket will include two glasses of Champagne – one poured from magnum and one from bottle – served blind. It will be fascinating to see if the format difference we noted with the 02 Taittinger reveals itself again. Many believe that a magnum is the superior format for Champagne.

We will finish with a pair of fabulous Burgundies from the amazing ‘Les Amoureuses’ vineyard, produced by one of the two top Amoureuses winemakers – J F Mugnier.

We are eating at Lee Ho Fook in the city, my favourite Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. George Koulouris has been nagging us to put an event on at this gorgeous restaurant – it is also in his top two restaurants in Melbourne. You may recall that Lee Ho Fook’s Chef was on MasterChef recently and produced a stunning lobster dish – we will get him to re-create that dish for this wonderful Sunday lunch. The restaurant is opening just for us and the Chef is excited to be there to cook especially for our guests. We have a limit of 20 attendees.
