Our March event was inspired by the book Wine & War, the French, the Nazis & the battle for France's greatest treasure, by Don & Petie Kladstrup. This book tells the remarkable story of France's courageous, clever vinters who protected and rescued the country's most treasured commodity from German plunder during WWII. We followed the path of American GIs as they fought their way through the Northern Africa and European theaters toward ultimate victory. For those of you who have any interest in French wine, this story must be shared. From Africa to VE Day in Germany, an effort was made to not only experience food and wine along the hard fought journey, but ultimately to remember and acknowledge the selfless efforts of the men and women who won victory over hatred and brutality and who deserve our recognition for the sacrifices they made in the name of freedom.
