Bulla Gastrobar remains one of our favorites for their consistent high level of cuisine and expert attention and service from the owners and staff. If you don’t know it already the lively bar scene downstairs makes for an exciting night out any night of the week, but we ascended upstairs for our private reception, the creative cuisine, and the fabulous wines of Spain, including the legendary 1995 Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único and the less known but we found deserving of legendary status 1995 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero Tinto Pesquera.
Our 5 courses of Spanish creations were paired with all Spanish wines. Spain offers tremendous variety and some of the best QPR (Quality Price Ratio) in the world. For the reception upstairs, 2013 Raventós i Blanc Cava Gran Reserva de la Finca was poured with three appetizers, and when we were seated we paired 2003 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Reserva Viña Tondonia with the perfect gazpacho and treats of seared tuna perched on crostini. We then enjoyed our long-cellared 1995 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero Tinto Pesquera with the freshly caught snapper with Bellota ham and pureed peas which made yet another blend of flavors from heaven.
The last two courses had us enjoying the 2001 La Rioja Alta Rioja Viña Ardanza Reserva Especial with the rich Iberian pork shoulder and then at last we finished with the legendary 1995 Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único. Joe Garrigo had written an excellent article on Bodegas Vega-Sicilia for Wine, Food, and Friends and we revisited it with our Members and guests to bid farewell to this last case of our 1995.
Members and guests had the same reservation preference for this event.
