Cafe Marion is a new venue for the Miami Branch which was discovered by our Host Mark Bloom. Marion features fresh, locally sourced cuisine from local artisanal cheese makers, fishermen and farmers. Twenty-five Members and Guests enjoyed traditional Mediterranean fare paired with marquee Burgundian wines. We held the reception in their wine room with 2000 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill en magnum with passed appetizers. The Burgundies started from the top with 2004 Les Montrachet with several superb Branzino baked in sea salt crust, then moved to 2002 Frédéric Magnien Charmes-Chambertin with the lamb and finished with the mature and complex 1993 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru en magnum with the cheese course.
During the event we had informative presentations on the wines and Burgundy by George Ibars, Mark Bloom, and Ethan Johnson, and Ted Evans spoke about the Champagne and recent cellar purchases made for the branch. Ethan brought wonderful framed maps of Burgundy for display, and the real estate value discussions were as awe-inspiring as the wines.
An award presentation was made to Miguel "Mike' Farra, our Miami Branch's long serving Board Member and Treasurer. For Mike's excellent and enduring service to the Branch he was awarded the Silver Medal for Service. Mike was nominated for this award by Past President Stephen Blythe during his term.
