Dear IWFS Members,

Sunday, October 16, 2011 will be the first tasting event for this year.  Join us for a German wine tasting (how appropriate for Oktoberfest) with a smorgasbord of tasty German treats that pair well with the fantastic wines.  In the spirit of IWFS, this will include some light education that focuses on some of the best German vintages in recent history.  Included will be decoding German wine labels, the German wine classifications and intensity (ranging from “trocken” (dry) to the desert  wines of “trockenbeerenauslese”), as well as the regions Rheingau, Mosel, Franken, Phalz, etc.  German grape varieties include not only Riesling, but also Gerwurtztraminer, Kerner, and some surprises.

The event will be held starting at 6:00 pm in the historic Hofheinz House, 3900 Milam (77006), which will celebrate 100 years in 2012.  It was restored in 2005 by Chef Barbara McKnight.  Food catering will be by Culinaire.  Attire will be Sunday casual.  The Texans are away (Baltimore), so traffic should not be a problem.  Valet parking will be available.

Target attendance is for about 50 people, with wine and food planned accordingly.  Please send in your reservations ASAP so we can tailor wine and food orders proportionately. Deadline for FINAL count is October 10th. For members, the event pricing is $85 with guests at $115. Valet parking is included.

A Votre Sante,

Randy Drake, Ravi Perera, and Harold Prasatik
