Fellow Members:
Our July event will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Hilton Hotel on the University of Houston campus (a Carnegie-Mellon Tier One research university), located at 4800 Calhoun Rd, Houston, TX 77004. They have just finished construction of a state of the art wine tasting room for their students. They are providing it to us, along with 3 wines from the famed Fred Parks Wine Cellar, for a tasting that night. We will provide three wines from our cellar, and the tasting will be blind. The tasting will last from 6:30-7:30, and we will be educated by Dr. Chris Taylor, Director of Beverage Management and the Fred Parks Wine Cellar.
His topic will be "the science or lack thereof, of wine tasting". It will be both educational and entertaining. The pours, because of the rarity of the wines, will be very carefully done and limited.
Following the tasting, we will then have dinner at Eric's Restaurant at the Hilton Hotel, starting at 7:30.
Believe it or not, we have priced this event at only $106 for members and $136 for guests. We are limited to only 50 people. The menu is attached.
Dress will be business casual with medallions. Fred Parks was President of the IWFS in 1973. One of the major benefactors of the tasting room was John Rydman, President in 1985. We'll toast both of them that night.
