Programme
Friday 19 October 2018
On arrival in Sion on Friday we will start with the "Balade des Divins”, a gourmet city-walking tour of Sion, the capital of the Valais. The tour will link together the old town, the wine and the gastronomy and provide
- the tasting of 8 local wines from 3 different wine producers and 2 historic wines
- 3 course lunch, with the label "Sion terroir urbain”
- a guided tour which will present the historic monuments of the old town and offerhighlights of the ancient city and typical food and tastings of local wine.
After the Sion tour we are heading to the village of Crans-Montana to check in at our Hotel l’Etrier. In the evening, there will be a light gourmet dinner at the hotel, with selected wines.
Saturday 20 October 2018
On Saturday morning, a bus will take us to the vineyards of artisanal wine grower, Pascal Bonvin. The family-owned business cultivates the most typical regional grapes, such as Arvine, Amigne, Pinot Noir, Humagne, Cornalin, Syrah, Cabernet, and Merlot. Following a small tour through the vines there will be a wine tasting and a raclette lunch on the terrace overlooking the valley.
After lunch we will take a walk along the Suonen or Bisses (irrigation channels) and visit the Musée des Bisses.
We will be back in the hotel in time to change for dinner, which will be served at the renowned restaurant of Didier de Courten in Sierre. The chef was nominated ‘chef of the year’ and holds 19 points in Gault&Millau and 2 Michelin Stars. We will enjoy a culinary five-course menu with matching wines.
Sunday 21 October 2018
On Sunday morning we will visit the village of Saillon. An attraction within the vineyards is the smallest vineyard in the Valais (Vigne de Farinet). It is only1.615 m² in size and holds only 3 vines! The proprietor is the Dalai Lama. The vineyard is named after Joseph-Samuel Farinet, a redoubtable smuggler and forger in the late 19th century.
A lunch in the old, romantic village of Saillon will complete the Valais Weekend. After lunch, the bus takes us to Sion railway station to board the train, or back to Crans-Montana, where cars have been parked.
