Dinner

Theme Dinner
Venue Ocean City
Location Bournemouth
Date Jun 22, 2012
Host Rob & May

This event is a dinner at Ocean City in Bournemouth, organised by May and Rob Haines. The restaurant was opened in 2007 and has since gained a reputation for serving authentic food as approved by the local Chinese community.

Our first, very successful, visit to Ocean City was for Dim Sum, the traditional Sunday lunch for the Chinese. This time we return for dinner. The menu is similar in style to a banquet. A typical banquet will have ten dishes with each dish being served as a separate course. We have eight different dishes and as some of you may know, eight is a lucky number for the Chinese and signifies prosperity. Rob and May have taken the liberty of rearranging the format with the meal being served as four courses.

We will begin the evening with Langlois Cremant de Loire, an elegant and fresh sparkling wine typical of the terroirs of Saumur. For the first course, Rob and May have chosen a Chenin Blanc from Boschendal, South Africa. This unwooded wine is refreshing with subtle layers of peach and melon to compliment the delicate spicing of the scallops. A more full bodied Fleurie Domaines Nugues will follow for the Peking Duck, a dish that takes over 24 hours to prepare. The main course will be accompanied by the classic match for Oriental food, W. Gisselbrecht Gewurztraminer 2009. It has all the hallmarks of a rich aroma with flowers, spices and exotic fruit to go with the complex and diverse flavours of the different dishes. We finish with a typical Chinese sweet of red bean paste pancakes.

This promises to be a superb evening and at an extremely reasonable cost of £43.50 for members or £46.50 for guests. The closing date for reservations is Wednesday 13th
