Our next event, organised by Adrian, is lunch at 10 Castle Street in Cranborne, formerly known as Cranborne Lodge.  This is a Grade II listed Queen Anne mansion with beautiful surrounding gardens and parkland in the centre of the village.  Part of the Cranborne Estate of the Marquis of Salisbury, it was most recently the family home of the Countess of Lichfield.  Lewis Tregonwell, the “founder” of Bournemouth, was also a previous owner.  Alexander and Gretchen Boon, who previously owned and ran the King John in Tollard Royal, have converted the house into a luxurious restaurant and private members’ club with overnight facilities.  Their extensive modern art collection is on display.  The head chef Simon Trepass uses locally sourced produce as much as possible, much of it from their own kitchen garden and surrounding farmland, and everything, from freshly-baked bread to ice cream, is made in-house.

Adrian has chosen a very tempting menu for us and, as Alex is also a wine merchant, I’m sure the wines will be equally delicious!  We meet at 12 noon and, to make the most of the idyllic surroundings (weather permitting), we will have a guided tour of the gardens and drinks on the terrace before sitting down to lunch at 1.00 pm.  We have been allowed exclusive use of the private dining room in the members’ club, which will provide an appropriate setting for what I’m sure will be an excellent lunch.  The cost for members is £70.00, and for guests £75.00.  Please let me have your reservations and menu selections by Tuesday 29th August.  Please note that the private dining room holds a maximum of 28, so early booking is advisable.
