This new restaurant, housed in an old boathouse, is in a beautiful spot right on the edge of the Thames in the heart of Henley.

Shaun started his career in the 2 Michelin starred Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons before moving to New York to work at Per se, a 3 Michelin starred restaurant ranked 6th best restaurant in the world. He returned to England in 2009 and joined L’Ortolan in Shinfield for two years before moving to Fallowfields as head chef and farm manager.

The Boathouse is Shaun’s first restaurant and, "will showcase the skills and passion he has developed in the charming, stylish and elegant setting of Henley-on-Thames. The restaurant offers a wonderful lunch and dinner menu with a wide selection of modern interpretations of British classics and of course in the summer the terrace provides a stunning vista of the river".

Shaun has put together the following three course lunch for us. We have tried some of the dishes and can highly recommend his choices.

Canapés and a glass of Prosecco on arrival

Slow poached lemon sole, crispy caper, quinoa, lemon gel

"Bastianich Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli 2009"

Braised lamb belly, roasted garlic, ratte potato, scented peas.

"Gnarly Head Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel 2010"

Basil baked Alaska, compressed strawberries, white chocolate and pistachio.

Coffee or tea and petit fours

The restaurant is 3min. walk from Henley station, which connects at Twyford to the Paddington line. There is a large station car park @ £1.50 for 4 hours or one just round the corner in Meadow Road which is £5 for 4 hours.

Come along and enjoy an excellent value lunch in lovely surroundings, all we need to make it a perfect day is for the sun to shine!
