IWFS EAZ Alsace Festival 2022

25th – 30th April 2022

Join us for a tour of the Alsace wine region in France, visiting some of the best vineyards and restaurants in the area.   It has been arranged in conjunction with David Ling, the Alsace specialist on the IWFS Wines Committee, the Grand Conseiller International of the Confrérie St Etienne d’Alsace and former Grand Maitre 2016.  We will be based at the charming traditional Hotel Le Maréchal in Colmar, a pleasant old town in the centre of the Alsace wine region.

Programme

Monday 25th April.  Check in to the Hotel le Maréchal.  Registration will be at 16h00.  Our welcome reception and dinner will be in the Hotel at 19h00.

Tuesday 26th April.   Leave the hotel at 08h30 to drive to Rouffach,  for a tour of the facilities and a tasting at Domaine Muré.  Then we will drive on to Domaine Schlumberger in Guebwiller for a tour and a tasting, followed by a light lunch at a local restaurant.  After lunch, we will drive to the delightful old village of Eguisheim.  We will visit Domaine Emile Beyer for a tasting, followed by a walking tour of the village, led by David Ling, who lives there.   We will then return to our hotel in time for a short rest before we depart for dinner at Restaurant Bertholdi, which specialises in traditional local cuisine.

Wednesday 27th April.   We depart at 0830 for the drive to Wintzenheim, where we will have a tour and tasting at Domaine Josmeyer.   We then continue to Domaine Cattin at Voegtlinshoffen, where we will visit their superb new Belvedere tasting room and wine bar.  It has fabulous views over the surrounding countryside, and we will have a presentation, a tasting and a light lunch.   After lunch we will drive on to Kayserberg, where we will visit Domaine Weinbach for a tasting.  We will then return to our hotel.  In the evening you will be free to do as you please.

Thursday 28th April.   We drive to Riquewihr for a tour and tasting at Dopff au Moulin.   They are well known as one of the original instigators of Cremant d’Alsace, and have been a good friend of IWFS over the years.  After the tasting we will have a light lunch at a local bistro, and then enjoy some free time in Riquewihr before returning to our hotel.   Dinner will be at the renowned Auberge de l’Ill, which boasts two Michelin stars.

Friday 29th April.   We drive to Mittelbergheim for a tour and tasting at Domain Gisselbrecht in the picturesque village of Dambach.  Lunch will be at a local restaurant.   We will then head to Ribeauville for a tour and tasting at Domaine Bott Frères, before returning to our hotel in time to get ready for our farewell black tie dinner.  This will be at Kientzheim, the chateau headquarters of the Confrérie St Etienne d’Alsace.  We will visit their wine museum and take part in a traditional confrérie ceremony and tasting, before sitting down in their historic hall for a very special dinner.
