Americas Omaha

Overview

The Omaha Branch, created from a group of six members formally known as the Omaha Wine and Food Society, received its IW&FS charter in 1971. The first president was Leonard Kulakofsky, owner of Central Market. At the time, Central Market was the finest wine and gourmet grocery store in the city.

The first meetings were initially held monthly at noon in the New Orleans Room of the Blackstone Hotel. The culinary accomplishments were under the skillful direction of Chef Erwin Siegler.

The Omaha Branch has approximately 100 members.  Many of Omaha's most prominent oenophiles, and many others with serious interests in learning and enjoying fine wine and food participate actively.  Most professions are represented, and all ages are involved.  Membership is by invitation, after a prospect is introduced by a member and he attends at least two events as a member's guest.

Twelve monthly events are held each year.  Venues are chosen from Omaha's outstanding restaurants and country clubs.  Menus are developed by member hosts, and most wines are selected from the Branch exceptional cellar.  Guests of members are welcome to many events, capacity permitting.

Annual highlights include the "Holiday Party" and April's "President's Event".  IWFS members from around the world are encouraged to contact the Omaha Branch when visiting the area.  We are happy to provide insight into our area's hospitality, and you may want to participate in one of our events.
