We are pleased to send you formal notice of the 2017 Annual General Meetings of the Cayman Islands branch of the International Wine & Food Society and of the IW&FS Wine Company Ltd, both of which will be held concurrently at the Brasserie Restaurant at 6:30pm on Tuesday 27 February 2018. You will find more details in the attached Notices and Agenda (please click on the links at the foot of this email). Copies of the minutes of the 2016 AGMs and of the draft accounts are/will be available on the Society’s website. Although the Notices and Agenda indicate a meeting start time of 6:30pm, please join us for a glass of Domaine Carneros Brut from 6:00pm onwards, to allow for a prompt start of the meeting at 6:30pm. After the meeting, we hope that you’ll be able to join us for a dinner designed to bring out the best in a variety of Californian wines, including a wonderful opportunity to drink Dominus 1992, one of the great Californian reds. The dinner will start at 7:30pm (or thereabouts after the close of the AGMs), also at the Brasserie Restaurant, in their outdoor “organic garden". Please click on the links at the foot of this email for details of the formal invitation and menu. On arrival, and during the AGMs, we'll be drinking Domaine Carneros Brut 2012. Wine Enthusiast rates this 92: "This lovely blend of 58% Chardonnay and 42% Pinot Noir is impressive in its doughy, refined sensibilities and in its distinct aromas of apple and orange blossom. Bright strawberry rides atop layered acidity and enviable length, while the palate is creamy and refined." We’ll start the dinner with Hirsch Sonoma County Chardonnay 2014, to accompany the snapper crudo. The wine is light and crisp and will work well with the mint and orange vinaigrette. Next, we’ll enjoy black pepper crusted yellowfin tuna with Heitz Bella Oaks 1999. This dish will have a little heat and sweetness from the black peppercorns, and needs a medium intensity red wine. This cabernet sauvignon combines just the right acidity with a long finish. The Dominus 1999 needs little introduction. It's the headline wine of the dinner, needless to say. Robert Parker awards this 93 points: "A deep purple, black colour. The nose has excellent definition: blackberry, cassis and a touch of liquorices. It has less weight and concentration than the millennial Dominus, yet it has superior balance and far more elegance. Crisp acidity, pure blackberry and cassis. Very focused and harmonious.” We’re matching the wine with beef tenderloin and smoked parsnips, caramelised pearl onions and kale. With an unapologetically smooth chocolate desert accompanied by caramelised hazelnuts and butterscotch, we’ll be enjoying Dolce Napa Valley Late Harvest 2011. "This wine presents butterscotch and citrus fruit aromas enriched with toasted caramel, crème brûlée and vanilla. As promised by the orange and citrus blossom aromas, similarly driven flavours mingled with honeysuckle are foremost on the palate. This wine’s balance of sweetness and acidity offers a sense of volume, and the coating texture progresses to a structured and lengthy finish." This dinner promises to be an exceptional chance to try different styles of Californian wine with bottle age, rarely found in wine stores or restaurants. We hope you can join us.
