London Accommodation for IWFS members

The arrangement whereby IWFS members could stay in the Lansdowne Club has been replaced by a similar arrangement with the In & Out, which has kindly given us a special introductory offer of 10% off its room rates for Affiliates.

Members of the International Secretariat staff are happy to answer questions about the Club’s facilities, but reservations should be made directly with the Club itself.

Serving the Council of Management of the IWFS

The Council, the governing body of the Society throughout the world, has six members drawn from five countries in three continents. The Secretariat staff organize Council meetings, whether face-to-face or by telephone conference. They are responsible for taking and circulating the minutes of meetings, and generally making sure that Council members are kept informed of the Society’s activities worldwide. As the IWFS is a company limited by guarantee, the Council members are also its directors, and the Executive Director is company secretary.

Serving members worldwide

The Secretariat provides help and advice for the Society’s members worldwide. This can take many forms, for example:

• Sometimes members travelling overseas wish to make contact with local branches and ask the Secretariat to effect the necessary introductions.

• Members visiting the UK frequently seek the Secretariat’s advice on choosing restaurants and often ask for help in arranging accommodations.

• The Secretariat keeps stocks of the Society’s regalia and merchandise, such as medallions, umbrellas and cufflinks.

• From time to time, the Secretariat organizes events, such as wine tastings, that are open to members of all the branches.

Producing international publications

The IWFS produces a series of Monographs, which are distributed free to members and published by The International Wine & Food Foundation of America. The complete list of published titles is as follows:

Copies may be obtained free from the International Secretariat, except that a charge will be made for postage to destinations outside the UK.

Traveller’s Wine Guides
The IWFS publishes a special edition of the titles on France and Italy from this series of full colour paperbacks (UK price £5.95 each).

Other publications produced by the International Secretariat include the Society’s annual Report & Accounts and Directory of Branch Contacts.

Vintage chart/membership card
The International Secretariat is also responsible for publishing the Society’s vintage chart. This is updated annually by the distinguished members of the Society’s Wines Committee, which includes several Masters of Wine. The chart is incorporated in the Society’s membership card.

The six-sided folding vintage card is also available in a non-members’ format. Contact the International Secretariat for a price list.

In addition, reproduction rights are sold to publishers of diaries and other reference works. The Secretariat can produce personalized vintage cards for outside organizations.
